Boot lock won't open

Featured Replies

My 2009 Ford Fiestas boot is permanently locked, so far I have found a way to pop the switch mechanism out with screwdrivers but this hasn't got me any closer to opening the boot as I suspect the mechanism that actuates the boot latch has broken.

Is there any known way to get it open?

The button on the key fob makes the mechanism attempt to function but just makes a whiring noise, the same as boot button. Here's hoping somebody has a clue, cos I haven't!

Pop the panel off the boot lid and see what's happening inside.

Might just need lubrication or something has got caught in the latch

If there's something happening when you operate remote release then it can't be the switch

Can't access any of the panels while the boot is locked shut as they tuck under where the boot closes. I've taken out 2 Alan bolts from inside the boot by flipping the seats down, unfortunately it has done nothing to release the boot latch.

I'll try and get some photos up later that illustrate how locked it is when it comes back from the hair dresser's.

You might have to cut them then to get in

Sadly this is looking like the only way, more destructive than I'd hoped for. Hopefully bits are cheap from a scrap yard or our local ironmonger. :wallbash:

not sure if this video might be of help as it sounds like whay have said about when you press your button ?. Found it through google Ai. It also mentioned about removing 1 of the rear lights to see if the cable runs through there ? If it's like my old escort it'll be within the body not through the lights at all 🤦‍♂️

Turns out that with lots of prying and jiggling with plastic pry tools you can get the plastic trim inside the boot off. It was a massive ball-ache but it gave me access to even more screws that I could undo to get the boot open.

Ordered a new latch off ebay, hopefully this will sort it, so long as the part fits of course...

I'll keep you posted!
