Replace lights

Featured Replies

Can someone help me I want to change my bulbs from halogen to led or they just plug and play

Hi,

With respect, you haven't even told us which model this is for.

Replacing halogen bulbs with LED bulbs is technically illegal and an MOT fail.  (Although some testers still pass them.)

You can buy LED bulbs that fit into the old halogen light clusters, but on some Ford models the cluster is too tight to fit some of the retrofit bulbs.  Also if you have a bulb warning system, you need to use specific LED's to prevent that flagging the bulbs as failed.

I'm guessing a very late registered Mk5 Fiesta 🤣

My partner has a 19 plate mk 5 Mondeo vingale with led lights mine is a 21 plate st mk 5 and it’s got the old lights I’m try to find out do I have to change the hole headlights to get the same lighting wood that be plug and play or a lot of re wiring or or three bulbs that give the same lighting cheers sorry for not explaining new to this

Replacing the complete light clusters isn't plug and play.  Will need wiring changed and also need to be enabled using Forscan.  You'll probably find that even used ones are very expensive.

Replacing the bulbs with LEDs won't give you the same effect as factory LED lights.  And it is technically illegal & an MOT fail.  Have you tried any better halogen bulbs yet?  That's the cheap & legal option.

As to what tom has said looking at a better halogen bulb is probably best, l have a transit connect mk1 and as standard ford used the h4 halogen bulb.. well you put a candle in them n you wouldn't notice the difference in brightness.. l paid £15 for a better pair n only have them on low because l like the ice blue 💙 colour l have at first till l have to turn them on properly then the blue disappear ( it's an advisory that l have on my mot of wrong colour bulbs ) but l like it 😂

That sounds exactly like the original connect healight bulbs 😂.. the best way l can explain it would be even on high beam you'd probably only notice there on at maybe 2 car length, normal about a wheelie bin length. My mate had a mk3 mondeo that he did that with because he complained about how he could probably see better sticking a torch into them 😂😂😂
