Rear brake pads

Featured Replies

Hey everyone! Need your feedback on something...

I have a Focus MK8 1.0 ecoboost mildhybrid 125PS from 2023, at the beginning of this year around January with 21000 km +/- (13000 miles) I made a annual maintenance, changing oil, filters, etc... on a official Ford dealer, they advised me that the rear brake pads were already on the yellow on the system they use to measure them and it only had around more 8000 km (4970 miles) that for me has a huge surprise... now the car has 33000 km (20505 miles) and the pads seem to still have a lot to waste.

Have anyone already change their rear brake pads? Also, the front ones at which km / miles you changed?

Thanks!

No you don't. 🤔

You might have a Fiesta Mk8 or a Focus Mk4.5

Let us know what it is, and if it is a Fiesta then post in that forum.

Sorry! Big fail on my end! it's a Focus Mk4.5. I was also searching stuff also on the Fiesta forum and mixed up the versions.

Can anyone advise what the disk/pad measure should be before change is necessary? My local Ford dealer is very quick to advise things need doing at £185/hour!

im sure mine are ok (mileage 9989)

Rear pads should last about 40,000

Front about 20-30,000 depending on weight and driving style

I always change discs with pads, you'll never convince me otherwise

New pads bed better into new discs

Fronts change with about 2mm remaining

Rears about 1mm

Hi @DaveT70 are you saying Miles or Kms? thanks

Pads seem to be made of softer material nowadays.  And rears seem to be made thinner from the factory as well.

I used to get ~50k miles to fronts and ~80k to rears.  Those days are gone though.  Rears only seem to last about 20k miles on Mk4 Focus from what I've seen on here.  With fronts lasting longer, opposite to what we'd expect.

I agree with Tom.

Also, some makes/models are worse than others. I have experience with some Skoda, Mk5 mondeo's and BMW 320's 2019 to 2023 models.

Some Skoda need rear pads at approx 25k but fronts go on to 45k

Mk5 Mondeo's need rear pads at approx 25k, or even less, but fronts go on to 45k

I have owned 3 BMW320 M Sport 2019 onwards models and all 3 have needed rear pads at approx 24/25K, but fronts go on to 45k - I know they really need them as I take the wheels off myself and physically look at them. Just had my main dealer replace the rears at 24k on my 2023 model, fronts are 25% worn. The vaste amount of my yearly mlg is spent on M5 motorway and the A30

It's ridiculous the brands doing this... This is my first car that I will change the rear brake-pads so early... With the hybrid era we don't need to brake so much, this is just to make us spend more money on already expensive cars... at least in Portugal 😅
