Wiper motors

Featured Replies

Why does my wiper motor play up and why has ford decided that a ford focus 2017 estate needs two wipers motors instead of the old fashioned, one motor and the rods. It puzzles me why they want to change a good idea to stupid idea which worked out dearer. As you can only get new wiper motors from ford at £1000 for 2 motors Then you have to pay someone to program them which is another waste of time and money. Good idea for it

Shame you didn't buy a 2018 Focus (Mk4).  Ford went back to the boring old system for those.  Tbh I've seen more failures on those...though admittedly they are cheaper to replace.

The opposing system was a good idea as it gives the driver a wider sweep area, conceals the arms when not in use and also means they don't need to manufacture separate components for RHD & LHD models.

As to why yours is 'playing up', we don't have enough info to go on.  Wiring damage is fairly common around the wiper motor area, so that should always be checked first.  If you do need to replace a motor then you should be able to buy a used one cheaply.  Just need to use Forscan to teach it the 'stop' points after that.

The usual problem is the communication wiring between the two motors. One is the master and the other the slave unit.
