Pre collision warning with active brake assist question(s)

Featured Replies

I have recently done to pre collision assist mod on my fez and fitted the suggested bi-directional abs sensors with correct part number, swapped out the camera for a C* version, ive enabled all the suggested forscan settings as well.

When i head towards a car / wall/ bin at speed i get this warning flash up on the dashboard but i never feel the brakes coming on.

Can anyone who has this feature on their car from factory explain how/ when it should assist with the brakes?

When i look any ford videos it gives the impression there's 3 types or pre collision things, 1st would be a warning with beep on the dashboard (which i get) if you don't react it will then 2nd - pre load the brakes ready for harsher braking, 3rd if you dont react then apply the brakes for you. Ive also got post crash braking on as well which should apply brakes to car in event of a shunt to stop you moving on when someone hits.

Is that correct?  I need to be able to try and test weather ive got my system set up correctly and programmed in ok.

I tried doing this without the correct sensor and got the warnings ok but had loads of DTC's about sensors so i know the camera detection is working ok but since fitting the ABS sensors i'm not sure now if its working.

That sounds about right. I get this exact warning on my Focus at the same point in the road I use regularly because the council  thought it would be fun to make half the road in to parking bays and then 'side step' the road around the bays. The car always assumes I'm going to crash in to the parked cars, sometimes up to 40 mph but despite the warning it has never applied the brakes.

I agree with @unofix, Despite what some people on this Forum say, the ones who say they think it might have applied their Brakes🤣, a crash would need to be imminent otherwise it just serves as a warning and you would not know if it pre-loaded your Brakes.

But do I set it to Level 2 Gen 2 or Level 3 Gen 3 ?

The original guide I followed said its supposed to be Level 2 Gen 2 but later in the thread after others had done it said they had to set it to Gen 3 so I'm not sure which one.

I guess should I ever need it in real life then I'll never know as it will be a real crash situation.

A friend of mine has it on his car (not a ford) and his works by slowing him down a little and he said it was very annoying 😂

Sorry another question about this, I recently added a Ford reverse camera and with adding bidirectional ABS decided to enable the rear parking warning which is supposed to warn/ brake for you when reversing but I don't get anything with that enabled.

Ford videos shows a message on sync screen from memory.

I havent enabled the low speed collision setting in forscan I'm wondering if I need that on too.

Didn't want to change too many settings all at once.

something silimar happened to me when i got the car few months ago. i went to park in front of another car, sometimes i drive bit too fast but i start to brake when i get bit closer, this time my car braked for me and on the dash it said city driving.

i actually thought i have hit something as i didnt know cars can brake on its own 😄

Was then when reversing? I haven't tested it at speed as their ford video just shows normal reverse parking.

Similar to my experience of test drives in cars so equipped (Puma), when passing lines of cars parked in bays as Unofix describes. Scared me to death until I realised what it was.

Interestingly, the Fiesta owners manual suggests it has it - my cars build details say otherwise:

less collision mitigation sys

From other forums it seems some markets do have it - I've seen a post by a German owner, with a shot of his screen menu.

You can't go by the manual as it's a kinda one manual fits all, if it's has something thisis how it works kind of thing.

This is exactly how im expecting mine to work now ive fitted all the required parts and enabled the function but it doesn't seem to.

mine came as standard and it is called city driving.

im guessing you dont have city driving on yours?

I didn't have any pre collision at all, I added it myself.

It sounds like your friends may be getting City Driving or Adaptive Cruise Control mixed up with Pre Collision Assist, they are completely different things.

You can't go by much Ford say these days! They usually add "if fitted" or similar though. This was available on the Fiesta in the Driver Assistance Pack in UK at one point, but seems to have disappeared from UK lists late 2020. Obviously they still offered it in some markets as the German poster had it on his car.

It came up in a discussion about all the stuff that had been dropped as time went on. Certainly not a box I would have ticked in any case.

Ford don't help by using different names in different places. An example is all the people checking if their Fiesta has what the Price List and Brochure called the Performance Pack. In the build details it's shown as:

engine performance level-high

even though it consists of LSD, launch control and shift lights - nothing to do with the engine.
