Full set of electronic modules from scrap Mk2?

Featured Replies

I know where a near identical spec car to mine is at a breakers. Identical as in same engine, colour, trim level and year.

They say that they will sell me the dash cluster, key, GEM and ECU as a matched set for £150.

I have read on here that all of these can be fitted as set to another similar Mk2.

It should then start and run without needing any programming.

A GEM from an identical spec Mk2 can supposedly be swapped to another car without programming.

It seems like it could be useful to have these parts as spares before they go into to the crusher.

Is there anything else I would need to remove to have a complete matched set ready to go?

I am not sure if the scrap car has an alarm or not. My car doesn't, so would this make any difference?

Thanks for any information.

I bought the spare GEM/BCM as the pins look clean and free of water damage.

When the weather gets better I will try connecting it to my Focus. I want to know if it works without being programmed.

If you have the keys and remotes too there should be no programming.

But you will still have VIN and mileage anomalies between the standard modules and the replacement modules.

I only have the GEM so far.

As far as I know, that doesn't store the mileage.

Is the VIN programmed into it?

No, it's the other modules:

ABS and door modules store VIN and mileage, but you probably haven't got door modules if it's just a zetec

It won't affect running though, just when you connect to FORScan you may get conflict DTCs

Thanks for the reply. It is an LX model so below Zetec.

The Pre-facelift Mk2s seem to be disappearing. I don't see as many now as when I bought it in 2021. Most I see at breakers now are newer.

I've noticed this too. I have same car as you but automatic. Seems to only be about 100 left on the road in auto from 2005. Looking to replace my front bumper from breakers but Aquarius blue is hard to come by in a condition even worth being a replacement for mine.
