Battery saver relay

Featured Replies

Hi, I have an 2002 fiesta zetec 1.4 16v petrol

The immobilizer is flashing and and the engine wont crank

Using forscan I got a ===GEM DTC B1316===
Code: B1316 - Battery Saver Relay coil circuit short to ground.

Question is where is the battery saver relay on an 02 fiesta?, Its not on the fuse board with all the other relays.

Thanks in advance for your help

It's not a user replaceable relay. It is contained inside of the GEM (which is the back section of the passenger compartment fusebox) soldered directly to the circuit board.

The battery saver relay is not usually the cause of faults like the one you have. The normal causes of the fault are water ingress to the GEM or a faulty instrument cluster.

Haynes diagram shows a battery saver relay in the GEM, which supplies interior lighting, and drives a second high current relay in the fuse box for the accessory/cigar lighter socket.  As said above, perceived battery saver relay problems should not affect the immobiliser.

We have a Fiesta and a Fusion, and I'm sure I get a

on both which I think is just spurious.

Must be an old DTC that wasn't cleared.

Just to recap, the original issue with the fiesta was  the immobilizer flashing and the led displaying eac fail.

after checking all connections and grounds I removed the steering column key transponder and found 2 roughly soldered connections where the copper coil wires meet the pcb. I couldn't get continuity form the coil to the pcb.

So it looks like I need a new transponder ring, I can get a second hand one on ebay, but i'm not sure if it will work with the blue chip w1 type keys?

The transponder ring is 'dumb' just think of it like an aerial, no reason for it not to work.
