2013 1.0 ecoboost -intermittent no crank/ no start

Featured Replies

Hi , had a sudden no crank issue , all the lights come on the dash but no sound , no dtc ,s , no error messages , tried x2 attempts , on the third attempt it started fine ?

it’s been perfectly ok for a couple of weeks , alternator is fine , newish battery full of charge , car drives great ..

then suddenly today no crank again , 3 attempts then it started fine , no dtc, s ..

I suspected the starter is on its way out , but then again it’s fine now ??

does this make any sense?? Are relays/ fuses intermittent?
thanks for helping …roy

Ps .. new Bosch efb battery s4e07 fitted by the AA (reset the software) on 06/24 , it’s got 12.6 usually cold / alternator pushing 14.8 .. so I’m assuming the battery is good .. be surprised if that was faulty ??

thanks Roy

What's it doing when it's refusing to start?

Just turning over? Or not turning over?

If it's tuning over suspect spark or fuel

If it's not turning over suspect battery or starter

Hi , turn the key all lights on dash light up but no sound or crank .. 2 attempts like that .. then 3rd attempt starts ok ..

yesterday I did x3 no sound attempts then 4th  it cranked slowly and just about started ok ..

so it’s either not cranking then it’s suddenly ok ..

thanks Roy

Test the clutch pedal switch and ignition switch first

If it turned over slowly, that would point to a weak starter motor.
