Immobiliser on mk1 suddenly not recognising key (or spare)

Featured Replies

UK Focus, Pats code 15 being blinked after fast blink at position 2 of ignition switch. Car worked without problem previous day but next day no crank. After several attempts it cranked and started but died again almost immediately and managed one further turn over and dying before not cranking since.

I can only think of 2 possible faults after trying all the simple stuff - 1) the transponder ring is faulty. or 2) the EEPROM in the system storing the code has failed. What do you guys think?

A post on a USA focus site says this can be remedied by replacing an EEPROM in the ECU and gives details of this on a youtube video but is this a similar situation on a UK car? If so, has anyone published the UK infomtion for such a fix?

Forscan has also been recommended for analysis but I understand this is no longer available to download since late 2024 due to Russian banking situation. Is there an alternave home user program available to help with analysis and programming keys etc?

I look forward to hearing any help on this frustrating problem.

I'm not convinced this is an immobiliser fault.  The immobiliser only checks for the key before start-up.  It should not cause the engine to cut-out after starting, or allow one crank before stopping.  Has car battery voltage been checked?

So l had this sort of thing happen to my mk1 focus fingers crossed it's what's wrong with yours ( l tried for a month to work out what was wrong before I  gave up, unfortunately about 2 week after someone asked if I'd looked at 1 place ) there's meant to be an earth on 1 of the front wing that gets corroded and causes this.. like l say hopefully this is what is wrong with yours l even found a video that showed how to bypass the immobiliser with 1 of the relays but even that didn't work.
