2015 Ford Focus Engine Cooler Cover Rattling/Loose

Featured Replies

Hi ford focus community! I am in need of some advice. I have a 2015 petrol wet belt engine (nightmare). It has an engine shield cooler cover that rattles when the car and engine turns on and drives. Due to it being old and rusty and already broke around the bottom bit of the shield cover where the screws go in the mechanics could not screw it back in after they took my engine apart to install a brand new wet timing belt (about a month ago, it snapped off as they were unscrewing and ***** it back up). I am just wondering if I can do anything for now as a temp measure? To stop it from rattling snd potentially hitting perhaps something it shouldnt be hitting?

Also my lower bottom engine cover (stops debris from entering engine area whilst driving)  appears to be degrading and dropping down in the middle which is very noticeable once the cars flat and not jacked up, I believe it is also now hititng some speed bumps and needs to be sorted but with having a new abs module (absolute nightmare and cost me 2k), new wet timing belt installed 1.3k, I dont have any money left really for car repairs. I also need a new clutch and flywheel in the next few days as I can feel the cluthc starting to slip (I want will want to get this done as a priority) which again will be likely £700-£1000 right? Again im wondering if there's anything I can do for the bottom under engine cover also as a temp fix which I doubt? How much do they cost? I dont think the under engine cover is very much right?

I am mainly concerned about the engine cooler cover rattling over the engine.. you can hear it when outside the vehicle or with the windows down even with the bonnet down. Can anyone give me any advice?

I am not in the best of times at the moment at all with money so I would greatly, greatly appreciate it. I have some metal I could use to create a screw hole which might prevent the engine cooler from rattling and moving if it works but I know this is probabaly a bad idea? Also zip ties for the under engine cover but am struggling to see what I can do there without just replacing the entirety of it.

Thank you

Warm regards,

The 2015 ford focus has only done 36k miles, it belonged to an elderly lady before me who I bought it off. I bought it at 29k miles.

I had the bottom engine cover off my 2014 Focus over the weekend to do an oil change. The cover itself isn't in too bad a condition, its the screws holding it which won't tighten up fully and keep turning when they should tighten fully. I have used cable ties (awkward to wangle but doable) which can be discarded and renewed next time the bottom engine cover needs to be removed. However you could buy a new bottom cover from Ebay quite easily for around £ 34. I would take the old one off to match up with the pics on Ebay.
