Focus MK4 st line X 2018 u0415 power steering fault

Featured Replies

Been getting issues for the past 9 months of owning my focus, taken it to Ford directly and a Ford specialist, even an inspection and no one can replicate this issue. On occasion I’m getting heavy or dropouts in power steering and not sure too much where to start as with forscan im getting u0415-00-08 and Carly I’m getting c41500 c15100 and c10000, any help I’d appreciate as warranty or garages have been no help at all

Check the battery 'State Of Charge' with a multimeter first thing in the morning. If it's 60% or less then it needs a very long recharge or it needs replaced. The power steering is very sensitive to low battery voltage.

Fit a new, fully charged battery

Update the firmware is the SCM and PSCM (and anything else that wants it)

Hi, thank you need to save up the money for the battery as of month end and xmas haha, but i do have a forscan ODBEX adapted and just going to get the full paid forscan license for the updates as originally ford said they could update my PSCM but would cost me £325 for updating and retest. if battery and updating modules doesn't work i feel like i'm going to end up needing an auto electrician to check wiring harness etc as im not too clued up about too much.

Be careful if you are going to attempt to update yourself.

You have the correct lead

You MUST follow the MFU guide on FORScan to the letter!!!

And connect the car to a battery charger

£325 is extracting fluids to be honest, it's half an hour's work, so an hour's labour max

I hate Ford

The new battery, then a module reset (FORScan) plus a DTC clear (FORScan) may make the trouble go away.

I doubt it though, my 2019 MK4 had software issues.

The riskiest ones are the APIM and the IPC and the ABS module, don't touch them unless you have to, or take to a decent Ford main dealer

thank you! yeah i'll do all i can really, i had taken it to a ford main dealer and they said "sorry can't replicate any of the issues" and they had checked wiring and codes but never said anything else, despite scanning it as soon as i got home and got the same fault codes listed above, had a bit of a feeling they just didn't bother to check diagnostically in the first place and just do a physical check. which was a bit disappointing considering 2 hours cost me £258. had also presented all these issues to a financial ombudsman as id been trying to reject the vehicle for a long period of time and they've said the fault codes were just temp errors despite it affecting my general steering. can only pray a new bat and updates fixes

Updates will fix.

I used to loose PAS on mine for a few seconds and get codes galore, update fixed.

But you need a new battery first as that causes a lot of false issues

Charge it before you fit it and reset the BMS (Forscan) and change the charge rate to 95% in BMS (FORScan)

sweet, so new battery, change the SOC to 95 perc, then update with the battery charging during.

ill keep this thread updated to see if this ends up working or not so in case of anyone else its a possible fix. Fingers crossed
