MK4 - Changing the tire size?

Featured Replies

I'm in the process of buying new tires. I was told to look if there's a similar size to mine, but much cheaper. I want to keep the factory size because a few euros isn't worth it, or so I thought, but upon checking I saw that the difference is almost €200 for a set!

The standard 215/50/R17 tire is €14X while the 225/45/R17 size is €100.

Will the wider tire work? Can it be programed in Forscan? The difference in diameter is around 2%

There's some very good Chinese tyres now, like the cars.

Just make sure you get ones that have high, "A" preferably, "C" MAX wet and economy ratings.

The old story:

I had a brand new 1.0 ST-Line Focus (DG17 UFV) that had Continental Sport Contact from the factory.

It used to understeer in the wet terrible.

When it was due tyres, x4, I fitted "Acceleras" that had "B" rating for wet.

They stuck to the road like glue.

It's all about the ratings, not the cost
