Key fob battery replacement

Featured Replies

I'm new to the forum and hoping someone can help.  I replaced the battery in my key fob only to find that it was no longer recognised by my focus. After following advice on a YouTube video, the key will now start the car but will not lock/unlock it. My spare key is now telling me the battery is getting low but I don't want to replace it as this is how I'm getting into the car! Any ideas?

Hi Nikki,

Not clear from your post it the car has keyless start (push button) or starts by inserting and turning the key? The owners handbook contains information on changing the battery correctly, if you don't have one you can download an electronic version here:

https://www.ford.co.uk/support/vehicle/focus-2018/2019/owner-manuals

However:

Both batteries do tend to go around the same time, unfortunately.

Problems we usually find with key fob battery changes:

* The obvious - battery not inserted correctly or wrong way round**

* Residue on the new battery from safety stickers etc - clean with a solvent

* "Dud" battery - had a few myself and counterfeits can get into the supply chain (often fake Duracell). If possible check the new battery with a multimeter before fitting - it should be 3.3v.

**NB The battery is inserted + facing down on the keyless, but + facing up on the bladed key.
