Mk2 Focus 1.6 Ti vct bad running

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've got a 2005 Focus and it's not running well. Starts very good, but has a very rich mixture, spark plugs go black and fuel smell from the exhaust. Idle is unstable and while driving there is a strong hesitation. So far I've repaired a shorted injector wire, which gave a fault code and replaced a cam sensor on intake side(also fault code). I think either the VCT phasers are broken or the MAP sensor is broken. Cleaning the MAP sensor had no effect. I removed the belt cover and the exhaust cam VCT phaser is slightly leaking oil (mileage is 300 000 km)

Car is not giving any useful fault codes anymore. Last one was P0300 (Random cylinder misfire).

Any ideas where to continue?

Another thought. With the MAP sensor disconnected the idle is stable. Having it connected makes the idle unstable.

Is this enough proof for a faulty sensor? I'm asking because the sensor is not very cheap

Got it sorted. Brake vacuum hose had a big air leak in the intake manifoldimage.thumb.jpeg.fa1438ffd27ce2137c60290b063bdf19.jpeg
