Fault with ford smax

Featured Replies

I recently purchased a 2016 ford smax

When driving on flat surfaces it runs 100% however when accelerating uphill the car shuts off and a warning light comes on - see owners manual. The car then starts with no issues. This can happen numerous times in one journey.

I brought the car to get a diagnostic test done and no codes were detected the mechanic said the car was 100% but obviously something is causing this.

It seems to be it has happened to other people but no response to say what the problem was or if they ever got to the bottom of it. Any ideas?

Take the car to a Ford dealer, or use FORScan to get the Ford specific DTC's read.

A local garage with a generic code reader is not going to be able to read the Ford codes.

It doesn't seem to happen if I keep the car under 2000 revs

The turbo makes a whistling sound once I go over 2000 revs but not sure if this is normal. Will hopefully get to the bottom of it this week.

Check for a loose or split turbo boost hose.
