Focus MK3 Steering volume/skip module not working

Featured Replies

Hi I've had my MK3 for nearly a year now and the volume module on the steering wheel has never worked nor the voice activated button situated behind it. The 2 circular buttons either side of the steering wheel work absolutely fine. Anyone else had this problem? If so how did you resolve it? Thanks.

I've already changed the 7.5amp fuse (no72) and still no joy

What model do you have ?

That looks like the steering wheel from the Titanium or Titanium X

It's the 1.6 TDCI Zetec

It could be that the steering wheel has been changed and your car was not built with those functions. It may just require the steering column clockspring changed.

If you let me know your VIN or Registration, I can get the Ford build sheet which should say if the car had those functions when new.

That is the Zetec wheel.  Bluetooth was standard on everything Zetec & above by that point.

Titanium came with cruise control as standard so not a Titanium wheel.

According to the old brochure I have (December 2010) all versions (including the then base Edge) had Bluetooth and basically the same wheel (but with leather rim on Zetec and above.)

Could it just be a faulty module? Never had a Mk 3 but the module on my Mk 2.5 was replaced under warranty after only a few weeks. I recall my dealer saying it was a very common fault.

That's interesting.  The Edge doesn't have Bluetooth in the 2012 brochure I have.

Yes, it is.

I did a bit of a double take looking at that old 2010 brochure but it's clearly stated in the specification table and the wheel pictured is the same (except for the leather rim). Otherwise you didn't seem to get much by going for a Zetec based on the launch spec. Ford must have thought the same and deleted stuff from the Edge to create a greater difference between the two!

(That 2012 brochure looks very similar to the 2010 except for no Bluetooth below Zetec - the module has gone from the pic of the wheel. Also they'd introduced the Studio below the Edge.)

So, probably just a faulty Bluetooth module ?
