Mod Advice for my 2012 mk3 1.0T Focus

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Have had my Focus as my first car since August, and as it's my first I've decided it is time to start the mods.

I've bought 18in Y spoke ST-style wheels in grey, 25mm eibach pro lowering springs all round, and 15mm spacers for the front and 20mm spacers for the back.

How much would it cost at a garage to put this all on and get aligned, roughly?

Additionally would like to start engine mods soon (remap, induction etc.) and some exterior stuff, does anybody have any advice for the best ways to go?

Thanks

Forgot to add exterior stuff

and the next question:

How much is my insurance going to go up once the car is modified ?

I'm on Admiral Multicar with my mum; as part of the policy I got 1 year no claims after 3 months without a claim. When quoted on the app wheels+suspension+wheel spacers is £13 to add on to what remains on the policy, and the engine stuff was quoted to add on about £95.

So honestly, not too bad.

£300-£500 depending on labour rates in your area.

I also assume the wheels come fitted with suitable tyres, otherwise tyre cost will have to be added.

So you are wanting to modify a 13 year old 1.0 Ecoboom engine ??? 😬😬

The engine is a newer one that got put in around 9000 miles ago, have had zero issues with it so far and I drive it pretty hard 🤷‍♂️

Besides, people modify these engines a lot and I think most of the issues come from a lack of maintenance rather than it being an inherently bad engine, apart from the belt design. But my car’s belt has been changed and serviced regularly and I like to keep on top of fluid changes. So all in it should be ok. I’m not going to go too mad obviously but a couple upgrades would be nice.

They’re on asymmetrical 6 eagle f1 tyres 👍

Ok, but I meant the correct size for Mk3 Focus and plenty of tread.

Bought them off a bloke who had taken them off his mk3 focus ST a week after he got it, the tread is good and from what I’ve researched they’ll go straight on and with the lowering +spacing will look good

Hi.

If you need any help with insurance at all for modifications then please feel free to drop me a line.
