Ford focus 2015 1.5 TDCI MAF READINGS

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

72k miles. No issues before whatsoever until unfortunately got an infamous error code P1102. Backstory - Service was done 3 weeks ago. MOT pass. A week ago going home at 70 mph, decided to overtake truck raised rpms to 2700, release accelerator and engine service now light came up. Now I can recreate same error from 3rd gear after releasing accelerator from like 2700rpm or above, car goes to limp mode. If ignition restarted error goes away. Simple OBD2 scanner reads P1102. I am by no means an expert or anything but general search directed me to cleaning map/maf sensors and egr valve. They were quite dirty so cleaned it. Replaced air filter to new.

Before cleaning everything live data showed 7.5g/s on maf sensor, egr error 99.2%, commanded egr duty 4% when idling, at the whole time when my OBD2 is connected on just ignition MAF sensor reads 4.44g/s even tho engine is not even on.. After cleaning MAF/MAP sensor and egr valve, MAF reads 9.5-10.5g/s on idling, other time 8.6g/s and another time 7.5g/s. Basically every time is different when i start the engine. After driving and warming up engine it stays stable at 7.5g/s on idle. This morning on cold engine maf read 10.5g/s egr error valve showed 99.2% commanded duty 0%. after reving egr comanded duty changed to 4%.

Interesting part that yesterday I went to test the car again. I had an additional P2279 Intake air leak error come up. So I looked at all pipes i can see and could not spot anything cracked. So I re-seated air filter. Tightened up all pipes i have touched, adjusted air filter box. Went to to test again and P2279 did not came back on. Only P1102. I have ordered new MAF sensor and EGR valve just in case they one of them malfunctioning. And will do smoke test next.

Anyone had anything similar and can give some ideas ?

Thank you

My money would be on that the EGR is sticking giving false MAF readings.

You'll find the MAF is fine

Thank you for suggestion. I done some more data checking. I noticed my egr duty sometimes randomly spikes to 50% under cruising speeds. I literally dont feel anything wrong with car performance. I pulls fine. Idling is smooth. Sometimes had slightly rough start tho. But sometimes starts like nothing happened. I done maf rate vs egr duty data comparison. It seems that my overall MAF reading is always abnormally high as to what google says it should be 🤣 the spikes in maf airflow is when im raising my revs on 2nd gear to try to cause error. I done nearly 3000rpm on second gear no error. Only when on 3rd or onwards with rpms coming down from 3000.
