Gearbox for 2013 Focus 1.6 TDI Econetic

Featured Replies

Hi,

Currently trying to find the correct part number for a replacement gearbox for a 2013 Focus with a 1.6 TDI Econectic Engine. I understand this uses the B6 gearbox which has different gear ratios due to being “Econetic”. Can anyone provide assistance with locating a part number or which gearboxes can and cannot be used? I seem to find loads of different part numbers varying on year on revision and I don’t wish to buy the wrong gearbox. The car does have stop start and the VIN is WF0KXXGCBKDD2428

The part number will be on your gearbox

The replacement must match the full part number, except that very last letter, which can be higher not lower than what is fitted

So no way to get this other than lifting up the car and looking at the gearbox? I saw some other threads on here where people were able to identify via the VIN but didn’t say how

Your post with the VIN seems to be missing the last digit. Can you confirm the VIN below ?

The official parts catalog only lists part number CV6R 7002-ND to be suitable for this vehicle VIN number.

However, the parts catalog only lists the most recent version of a particular part. It does no longer offer a cross reference between the most recent part and older part number it replaces.

The only way to reliably determine which part number is currently fitted is by looking at the tag/sticker with the part number (if it is even still readable after all these Years).

The 6-Speed ECOnetic TDCI B6 transmission is quite rare. Finding a used one can be quite a challenge. Even if you are able to find one there is a considerate chance that it also suffers from excessive wear.

There are a few transmission specialists within Europe that offer fully re-manufactured 6-Speed ECOnetic TDCI B6 transmissions for about €1500,-. This is way cheaper than a factory re-manufactured transmission from Ford.

That's the label off my 2013 1.6tdci econetic gearbox.

I'm currently rebuilding a KF varient box to fit in mine due to what I suspect is input shaft bearing failure, I won't be able to confirm for definite that's the cause until it's out, I know it's not the clutch or dmf in my case as I've replaced them both.

Hope that helps,

Chris.

We’ve spoken to a few gearbox specialists and garages and they all seem to be under the impression that basically any gearbox will work and that it doesn’t specifically have to be an Econetic gearbox Is this correct? I understand that Econetic have different gear ratios so a different gearbox would behave differently but unsure if there would be any other complications

No.

The ratios will be out.

You'll have lots of conflict DTCs

Mechanically yes they will work, 'kind of' BUT as Dave has correctly said you will be hit by many fault codes, behaviour of the PCM will be erratic as it try's to match engine speed with road speed. You can expect mpg to drop (not just a little).

So in short, you need to put back the same type as you have, or get yours refurbished.

amazing thank you both. I was 99% sure this would be the case but I thought the specialists would know better but clearly not

Just as an update on this for future people who are looking. We ended up sourcing an econetic gear box that had the Part number AV6R-7002-KG. Car is driving excellent now with no faults and no changes to gearbox behaviour (with the exception of it now being fully functional)
