Google Maps: Next turn in HUD / dash not showing sometimes

Featured Replies

I have a 2023 Focus and use Apple Carplay. Google Maps is my preferred satnav, and the map appears fine on the large touch screen.

However the next turn info had never appeared in the HUD or dash (even though enabled in the HUD settings).

I had just assumed this was a limitation of iPhone/Apple Carplay/Sync 4.

However last week the next turn info mysteriously appeared in the HUD and occasionally on the dash - I had not changed any settings, and wondered if it might have been due to a software update somewhere.

Yesterday I drove 50 miles and the turns were all showing - happy days.

However I then drove the same journey back and the turns had vanished again.

I have not changed any settings anywhere, so am mystified how the navigation info appeared for a week and has disappeared again.

Has anyone got the navigation info successfully appearing in HUD or dash for Google maps on iPhone?

OK, so what I think is happening:  if I connect my phone to charge it via the front USB-A socket then the navigation turns from Google Maps appear on dash and in the HUD.

But if I charge my phone via either the wireless charger or from the front USB-C socket the turns don't appear on the dash or HUD.

So maybe the USB-A socket provides *wired* Apple Carplay, which maybe is bringing the turns through.

Whereas the other two methods maybe use *wireless* Carplay which maybe doesn't bring the turns through.

One other strange quirk on the dash and HUD navs is that it says "yd" for the distance units, but actually its in "feet". (Probably not a problem for metric m/km users.)
