Mk1 focus fuel pump fuse

Featured Replies

Hi all,

After scouring some old forum posts on here today I was able to get my car started. It was turning over but not starting. I noticed that I couldn't hear the fuel pump hum when turning the key to run like I normally do. I walked to Halfords and replaced the 15A fuse and it started like a dream.

My question is - how concerned should I be about the cause? It's a 51 reg from 2001, quite low milage for its age (90k) and reasonably good condition. It's never once let me down before today. I've owned it now for 10 years and as far as I know, that is still the original fuse. It's probably coincidence, but it was in the garage last week for a MOT and replacement brake valve (and they couldn't open the bonnet so had to break the bonnet lock off). It does make me wonder if something may have been disturbed during that process.

Is it worth me taking it to a garage for a check over? Would you leave and see if it goes again?

No them doing the bonnet won't have done a thing to it apart from the need of a new bonnet lock ( the plastic insert to them wears out eventually stopping the lock being undone by the key ) the fuse is nothing to worry about I'm very surprised by your description of your 51 plate most have bad by now you've done well 😎👍

Thanks mate, it wasn't so much that I thought taking the lock out would directly cause a problem, more just whether something might have been disturbed in the process of that or having the brake fluid drained or something.

I'll just keep some spare fuses in the glove box and see what happens.

No it's OK in that way when l had 1 I'd seen loads that had to have the bonnet done due to the lock going n not 1 ever reported that happening hence me being able to say it wouldn't have, l couldn't imagine draining the brakes would gave done that but stranger things have happened that shouldn't.. l had a mk5 transit before that would cut the speedometer off if a headlight bulb went 😂. Keeping spares to habd is a good idea indeed 👍🏻
