AC not blowing any air, searching for possible causes

Featured Replies

2020 Ford Fiesta MK8 1.0T EcoBoost MHEV 125PS

Hi everyone,

My fans haven't been blowing any air at all, hot or cold in my fiesta for about a week

I tried to top up my refrigerant yesterday but the gas was just in the normal range, and topping up didn't make a difference

I have scanned the car with an OBD-II and no codes have come up, the only thing being the active shutter grille being broken which has been the case since I got the car 18 months ago

I recharged the car battery a few months ago and it has been running fine, I have also driven the car for over 30 minutes with the stop start turned off and there have been no problems, but the ac issue has persisted

When I press the buttons to redirect air flow to the body or feet, I can hear an audible whirring like a motor moving, but then this stops, so I think this is the noise of the air being redirected

I can't hear any 'whooshing' noises or anything that would suggest a leak of some kind

I have had the car at Halfords today, and unfortunately they have not been able to determine the cause and have suggested I go to a Ford garage, which I have booked into for Friday. The Halfords technician told me that after they did some searching online, they found that there was some kind of warranty problem / recall with this problem for this car but they had no information from Ford how to fix it. I haven't been able to find anything specific about this myself.

I was wondering whether anyone had any experience with this issue or had any information about it, I have a feeling that this could be quite an expensive repair. I have managed to avoid major work so far by doing my own repairs but this is almost certainly beyond me, unless something very obvious has been missed or a plug-and-play component just needs replacing. At the moment, I'm at a bit of a loss.

Thanks

Previous thread on similar issue might offer a clue:

Thanks, really helpful

Tried a minor and master SYNC-3 reset, unfortunately neither worked but worth a shot

FIXED

As an update to anyone experiencing this same issue

The technicians at Ford found that the AC fan was stuck, possibly due to cold weather and simply had to turn it around themselves to get it going again with the recommendation of running it at full blast for 15 mins during winter to prevent it sticking again

Not quite sure how Halfords managed to miss that so they clearly just didn't bother looking at the fan

So the issue was no air blowing and Halfords didn't notice that the fan wasn't blowing air... couldn't make it up lol

Unbelievable right? £35 diagnosis to not bother looking at the fan
