Tailgate won't open via the interior button Ford Focus MK1

Featured Replies

My tailgate on my ford focus mk1 2002 hatchback will not open via the button inside the car. I know the button is working and I have even crossed the two wires together going to the button but still nothing happens.

I have pulled back the rubber sleeve where the boot opens near the hinges to see if any wires are broken but they look fine. I can open the boot with the key fob fine absolutely it's just annoying I can't use the dam interior button.

Any ideas anyone?

If it is anything like a 2002-08 Fiesta, it could be the driver's doorlock (DDL).....  The button on the remote would work, key in the keyhole worked, but not the button on the dash. I spent hours investigating this problem, and included changing the GEM/BCM, but to no avail.  I found that by opening the driver's door by using the the key in the door lock, (turning it firmly !) rather than the remote button, then the dash button would work......

On a Fiesta the DDL is fitted with a microswitch that tells the GEM/BCM if the car is locked or unlocked, and if unlocked, then the button works. (New door lock price - Prohibitive!)

My be worth a try, but no guarantees !

Sounds about right what you've said Paulkp normally the only reason the interior button stops working is the pad that joins them constantly touches because the rubber around it gives up, given he's had the wires out n joined I'd be more likely to say what you said is possible to be the cure.. as I've never heard of this happening..
