Battery Warning Light issue

Featured Replies

I am a new driver, I’ve noticed the last few days that my battery warning light is showing. Took it to a local Autocentre who have confirmed that my battery is in good health (95%), and my alternator is also charging the battery. But the warning light is still present.

For context, the light turns on after 30 seconds once engine has started, comes on regardless of if in idle or driving.

It’s likely a sensor issue but I’m worried about a random breakdown in this weather.

Thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I’m hoping to see a mechanic at the weekend preferably, but if consensus is to check it sooner I will do so.

Hi,

Modern cars use a variable rate charging system.  Although the alternator is confirmed as charging, it's probably stuck on the default setting due to a fault.

Usually there is a broken wire between the alternator and the engine ECU.  You would be better off taking it to an auto electrician than a general garage.
