2019 Ford Focus - Driver Door Arm Rest Soaking Wet

Featured Replies

Just got out of the car this morning and noticed that the padding on the drivers door arm rest (I think that’s what you would call it) was absolutely soaking wet.

The rest of the door was dry.

Has anyone had any experience of this? Or know what may have caused it?

Windows have been left shut during the poor weather so it’s not like rain etc could have got in that way.

my guess is the door seal, or if you have those wind deflector things, they sometimes leak past into the inside of the glass.

get someone to sit in the car with the window and door shut, and run the hose over the top of the door frame. you should see it coming in.

Did you open the door when the car was covered in snow at all?  I managed to get a load of snow covering the arm rest and window switches as well as all inside the door pocket the other day.  Not my smartest move. 🤦‍♂️

Rain can also come in off the roof if you set off to the left with the window open after being parked.

If you definitely haven't done either of those things then you'll have to look at the door seals as suggested above.  Can't say I've ever seen a door seal only leak onto the arm rest in any car so far though.

The only thing that has come to mind is that I did have my windscreen cover on as we were expecting frost, but instead we just got a load of rain. So I’m just wondering now if that has maybe caused an issue with the seal and water has leaked through.

I guess the only way to find out is maybe trial and error with the windscreen cover being on or off when the weather is poor this coming week
