Focus ST intermittent cutting out, firing on 3

Featured Replies

Hi, I bought my ford focus st new in january 2013 and I still love it! However it has an intermittent problem in that sometimes for hundreds of miles it drives fine then it can go through a spell of cutting out when on tickover--dangerous at junctions, running on 3, jerking, running v rough. Ford and tuners have looked at it but no answers. It seems to be worse when the fuel tank is below half full. Does anyone have any ideas whats causing this. This has gone on for the past few years.

If the level of fuel in the tank seems to affect it has the breather system been checked it’s all clear and working as intended?

Maybe when the car is playing up try opening the fuel filler to see if there’s a release of vacuum or pressure - you might need to use the refuelling funnel assuming you’ve got a capless filler
