Focus MK4 Hybrid oil leak

Featured Replies

Evening

I have a 1.0 Ecoboost hybrid (2022) 125Bhp (only 15k mileage) which has developed what appears to be an oil/fluid leak towards the top of the engine, as shown in the attached photo. The oil level has not dropped so the leak seems very minor currently.

I just wanted to check if anyone else had experienced the same issue and what  the cause might be?

Many thanks

99% certain to be a drip from the bottom of the dipstick caused by checking the oil level.

Hi Brett,

First step is to clean that stain. If it leaks again, it means it is not the dipstick and you should figure out where it is comming from and decide if it is worth fixing. If it doesn't leak again, you are lucky and you can leave it alone.

Other possible causes: VVT acutator o-ring is leaking based on the fact that there is visible oil stain on the actuator in your photo.

Tip: also check the vvt electrical connectors. There have been cases were oil gets inside those and "travels" further through the loom.

VCT actuator plug seems likely.  Also worth noting that black plastic box is part of the PCV system on the later engines, there will be a small amount of oil inside there and that black pipe, so oil can come from there as well.
