Mice chewed through my crankshaft position sensor cable

Featured Replies

Hello, as above, a Mice chewed through my crankshaft position sensor cable by the connector block that plugs into the sensor. A mobile mechanic came out yesterday to try to repair it with crimp connections, it worked for about 1 hr but now the red exclamation sign has appeared on the dashboard and the revs are very erratic.

Its, almost undriveable as the car is in limp mode and will not go faster than 10-15mph.

Scan tool shows p1632 and p2176.

I also googled this and it appears that as the repair on the cable was so close to the engine, that there might be interference causing the ecu to struggle to read crankshaft position OR the crimping connection has partially failed.

I've looked online for a replacement connect but cannot find one the uk. I can order from China(Aliexpress) or the US but it will take two weeks to come (See attachment)

I really need some help with this please as I cannot drive the car.

Yes, that's right it was the cable and connector I needed.

Will crimping work or would butt connectors be better (i heard you need a heat gun for butt connectors with solder inside) https://www.amazon.co.uk/solder-seal-wire-connectors/s?k=solder+seal+wire+connectors

Thank you
