Ford Kuga 2022 ecoblue diesel 1.5cc

Featured Replies

My last 2 fords have been kugas with diesel engines. Current car is 2022 ecoblue diesel 1.5 cc engine.
I have had the car 2 years now. The oil had been changed when I bought the car in Feb 2024. By next week I will have had 3 further oil changes. The last oil change was in September 2025. It is now January 2026 with my oil life at 6%
I drive sensibly although admit this mainly involves short journeys commuting to work and doing local school runs. I constantly get warnings of soot buildup an advise of drive to clean the filters
my previous kuga 2.0 litre diesel engine had no problem lasting a year in between oil changes. My driving habits have not changed. So I'm wondering if there could be an issue with my car. I'm also considering charging my car and taking the hit financially due to negative equity.
just wondering if any other Ford Kuga ecoblue drivers have been disappointed with the oil life.

I'm going to assume your previous Kuga was a 2019 model or older. It would therefore have been fitted with the '2.0 TDCi Duratorq' indestructible engine.

You now have the '1.5 EcoBlue' engine which is completely different, and short journey's will cause oil dilution due to frequent regens.

Hello. Thanks for your reply. Yes my old Kuga was a 2014 model. I did not know what you meant by the frequent regens but I have just read up on it.
my driving habits are not going to significantly change so maybe it's not the right model for me.
The oil dilution does not sound good. I am having the car fully serviced in the next few days including oil a filters changed. I am not sure if a professional DPF clean would then be required.
Thanks for your advise.

It's a difficult one, there is no modern engine that will really suit your needs. I speak from very personal experience. We have had in the family a 2010 (bought new) Kuga 2.0 diesel TDCi Duratorq. The engine has been fantastic but since my daughter mostly does journeys of 7 miles at a time we began to have issues with the DPF.

So very recently we have just replaced it with a 2019 Kuga petrol 1.5 Ecoboost. The the car is fine, it drives well and being petrol it doesn't mind the short journeys, or does it ? The car only does 29mpg at best around town, even driving it like Miss Daisy. On the motorway it can stretch to 34mpg but only if you keep to 60mph.

What engine would I recommend for you ? The simple answer is whatever you chose will be a compromise between daily running costs if choosing petrol, or very frequent oil changes if choosing diesel.

Thanks that's good advise.
I too previously had a Ford focus 2.0 petrol which liked to drink petrol for fun.
I have noticed my current ecoblue diesel engine has been the best on fuel of all my fords and gets pretty good mpg.
For now I think I will have to keep it. I usually keep my car 6 plus years on average. Maybe by then I will be ready to take the leap to electric.
Thanks again 😊👍🏼

In 6 years time electric will have been consigned to history 🤣
