C max 1.6tdci / for scan

Featured Replies

Hi.  Plugged for scan into the cmax last night to run the headlight calibration program ( the headlights can be heard making tiny adjustments regularly when the cars sat still so wondered if a calibration would cure ).  Anyway got as far as HCM headlight adjustment and calibration has been started and a second later ... service procedure failed - no explanation as to why.  Any ideas ?

Also code P042E - egr control stick open, EGR was new around 1 . 5 years ago

Also code P037D - glow plug sense circuit ( I know at 115k the plugs likely need replaced.

More interested the fact I can't seem to get to recalibrate the lights and this egr nonsense.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

I know nothing about the headlight process, other than if the motors are seized the process may fail?

If EGR  is stuck open then that needs investigating to see if it is real or not - suggest looking at live data for demanded and actual valve positions and go from there?

I am in the middle of a similar glow plug investigation and suggest the following which assumes an 8 pin Nagares finned module or similar (I can only give details for my engine and my research so far):
There are two very large pins in the middle, one a permanent supply from a large (80A) fuse, the other an Earth (I don't know why that is so large or necessary)
There are 4 other large pins that each go to a separate glow plug. Each plug is activated separately and reported back on by the module.
Test the resistance to Earth, should be perhaps 0.5 Ohms (I can only give my figures) this tests individual plugs and may avoid difficult removal.
Also suggest load testing from supply pin to each plug using 55W bulb.
Watch you don't short anything as there is some danger with permanent live connections!
The other 2 thin wires come direct from the PCM.
I  believe one commands the unit to switch on and the other gives feedback to the PCM in PWM  form (can be monitored in Forscan)
I have changed the module with no effect and both seem to work but sometimes (and there's no pattern yet) starting at low temperatures (below 4 degrees) it takes a lot of cranking to start. If the warning light doesn't come on at those temperatures it seems to correlate?
I've also measured the current with a clamp meter. There is a very large spike (perhaps above 60 A which is around the steady value I expect but it seems to settle back to an average of 10A which is much lower than I feel is correct - all still a mystery.
I don't know if this helps or not but any findings may help me with my issue!

Hi.  Thanks for response.  May I ask how I get "live data" ? Do I require a licence key to access this part of Forscan ?  like I said the EGR valve was recently replaced but I suppose the pipes could be full of crap.  All the more reason to have all that nonsense mapped out I suppose.

Cheers

No only thing you need licence for is programming.
Check SY Diagnostics he's really good and clear (but there are others) There is a row of at least 4 Forscan tutorials:

Jimmy's channel is also excellent and... he (and I) say don't map it out, it will just cause more problems, fix the underlying fault (your choice of course  but Good Luck if you change the software and don't come back crying! 😉)

P042e is an electrical fault code, the EGR detects the voltage hasn't changed when it tried to move the EGR valve.

There is a different fault code for clogged pipework which gets picked up by airflow measurements from the MAF instead.

If the EGR was replaced a couple of years ago, that might have been an old code if the codes were not cleared since.
