Focus MK4 2019 - Cracked windshield

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a MK4 Focus with a Quickclear front windshield that had a small crack. I sent it to repair, but in the end it had to be replaced.

Currently it has been replaced for a Pilkington windshield (without Ford logo), but I noticed that the filaments do not go until the absolute border of the windshield. There is a "deadzone" without filament. I'm pretty sure that the original glass add until the start of the black paint, as I have some photos from before. I attached a generic picture from the internet as a reference. The red lines are the limits for the heated filaments that are currently on my windshield.

I made a claim to the service provider, and they ordered a windshield from Ford directly, and what arrived it is exactly the same from Pilkington, but with the Ford logo.

Do any of you have a heated front windshield? If yes, can you check what is the limit of the filaments (do they go until the black serigraphy)? What is the supplier and code?

I can add that the car was bought in Germany, and it's currently in Portugal where the replacements are being made.

Thanks in advance.

The elements do not go right to the edges of the screen even on the original factory fitted screen.

What you show it the picture is correct.

It's strange, because the one I had fitted before had until the edge.

I have a blurry picture, but if look really carefully, you can see that the elements go much closer to the curve of the glass. Mine, currently has almost 20cm in the bottom without elements.

Edit: add another picture from the front

Hi,

On my late 2020 mk4 the heating wires don't go till the edge. From what I could tell, mine are very similar to your first picture where the red lines are.

Not sure if it helps. Maybe they changed it after 2019?

The lines can't go the edge on any screen. They have to be exactly vertical (top to bottom) and you can see the screen is wider at the bottom, so there cannot be lines past the edge of the top. The diagram with red lines actually shows this perfectly.

The elements dont go to the edge for a reason, it would cause premature delamination if too close to the edge.

could be for some reason you had an older revision screen. but given how quickly the elements clear the screen, there should be no issue regardless.

I've just found a picture of my old Mk3 to illustrate the point I made above.
