Focus MK3 Cruise Control Retrofit: Limp Mode After 4s(P061B)

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for help with a cruise control retrofit on my Ford Focus MK3 1.6 Ti-VCT (manual transmission).

I retrofitted cruise control using the steering wheel / cruise buttons (swapped the steering wheel, mechanically/electrically plug & play). I enabled cruise control in the BCM, and the cluster shows the cruise control indicator normally.

Symptoms:

  • Cruise control can be switched on and works at first.

  • I can press SET and it holds the speed.

  • But after about 4 seconds the car goes into limp mode.

Diagnostics (FORScan):
The main fault stored in the PCM is:

  • P061B:47-2C – Torque calculation: internal fault

    • Text mentions something like “monitoring/safety µC fault”

    • Status: intermittent

    • Freeze frame shows e.g. (see screenshot): module voltage ~14.5 V, closed loop, speed ~33 km/h, etc.

Important: The fault only happens when I activate cruise control.
If I drive normally and don’t use cruise control, it does not go into limp mode.

Additional info:

  • In FORScan under “Configuration and Programming”, the PCM only shows AS BUILT (no “easy”/plain-text configuration menu) – see screenshot.

  • Adapter: VLinker (should be stable).

I’ll upload the two screenshots (DTC + FORScan options).

Has anyone seen this before or has an idea where to start?
I suspect something related to clutch signal / brake signal / plausibility checks when cruise control is active, but I’m not sure what to check first (e.g. clutch switch present/adjusted correctly? brake switch A/B?).

Thanks a lot! 🙂

Give FORScan forums a try, you may just need a software update

Hi Dave,

thanks for the quick reply.

When you say “software update”, do you mean updating FORScan itself, or updating the car’s PCM software/calibration (e.g. via Ford IDS/FDRS)?

Just want to make sure I understand you correctly.

The car's software, either PCM or IPC I reckon

The original Cruise Control switch also contains the speed limiter.

When activating the Cruise Control the following parameters of the CCC (Central Car Configuration) needs to be changed.

#23 Cruise Control. Change from “Without Cruise Control” to “Cruise Control”.
#224 Adjustable Speed Limiter. Change from “Without ASL” in “With ASL.

Failing to activate the speed limiter results in errors and DTC codes.
