Fiest 2015 1l EcoBoost Damaged timing belt

Featured Replies

I have a Fiesta 2015 1l Ecoboost. Just passed 80k miles.

While being stationary, the engine turned off with the Auto start/stop. When starting it only got up to around 500 RPM and then dropped back down. Based on the fault codes and how it sounds, I have been told the timing belt snapped.

I just wanted to check if it would be worth exploring fixing it. We were hoping the damage wasn't catastrophic since it happened while the engine wasn't at high RPM.

Hi,

This depends on whether you can do the work yourself. If yes, then it could be worth stripping down to check the damage.

But if you're paying for garage labour then it's likely to be cheaper just to replace the whole engine. Usually damage has been mounting up over time due to reduced oil pressure as the oil pump clogs up with belt fragments before the belt finally breaks. So the engine could be heavily worn inside even if the valves weren't damaged by the belt snapping.

@RayC333 may comment on that if he's around!
