Buying Advice - Ford Focus 2016 1.6 Ti - VCT

Featured Replies

Hey Everyone,

I'm looking at buying my first car (currently driving my dad's Citroen Xsara 1998 with a 1.9d). So I found this Ford Focus 2016 with the naturally aspirated 1.6 Ti VCT engine with 120 000kms with a good service history allegedly, 2nd owner (1st owner history has e-service history warranty) managed to get a 7000 euro price for it. Waiting on the current owner to call the car salon from where the car was originally bought so they can send me the service history, as they can't give it to me directly without the current owner.

Engine sounds good, was able to give it a test drive but because of city driving couldn't put it into 4th or 5th gear. Clutch was pretty good car was moving without any issues, didn't notice any vibrations and was instantly moving from an early clutch without giving it gas (I think that's a great sign).
Car looks well maintained overall, one small rust dot on the driver's side door probably from a random rock on the road which I think is easily fixable, some minor scratches which are pretty normal as it's really dense where we live (Skopje, North Macedonia). Only real damage I noticed was the car grille has 2 parallel cracks and the seller (current owner) told me that it's from the 1st owner as he hit it somewhere. It's a really minor detail which isn't even noticeable with the naked eye unless you touch the car everywhere. Also it's missing a back cap on the bumper.
The car has basic equipment, no parking sensors, no bells and whistles.
So far I'm aware that the engine was designed in a time when fuel efficiency wasn't any priority, so I'm aware that it might spend 8-10 litres of petrol per 100km, and that it's not the most exciting or fast engine. I don't really care about that type of driving as it's mostly for daily driving and/or highway driving since driving a car is better than relying on public transport in my god forsaken town.

I checked the car with my phone's 0.5 zoom camera for rust and there's nothing bad, some small signs of surface rust which isn't even noticeable and easily fixable in my opinion.
My main concern though is I noticed on the video after I recorded underneath the car that there's a strange vaccuum hiss or like something electrical working underneath, so I did my paranoid research and I came to two conclusions so far:
1. It's just the fuel pump sound on how it's working.
2. It might be a hose that's got a hole in it. - However to my argument I didn't notice any strange RPM or issues while driving it, felt pretty easy to drive until 3rd gear.

I wanted to attach the videos or .mp3 files with the sound and I'm curious what you guys think but I see that it's not supported, but if anyone is interested in hearing it I guess we can get on a call or I can stream it to someone to hear the sound.

Hope you find this post interesting and I hope I can get some feedback on whether I should commit to this car or not.
