Auto gearbox problem

Featured Replies

I have a 2009 ford focus convertible, gearbox shifting very hard to do , anyone with idea please

Many thanks

Need more info, exact type of gearbox (you say auto, yet say shifting very hard to do???) explanation, how long have you had it, mileage, history of maintenance etc. so that some expert has something to work with as it may not be me!

if as title suggests its an auto change the fluid - its the usual port of call on any auto and see where that gets you

if its a dual sequential disaster box, park in a corner and ignore it

if a conventional manual - lube the linkages under the shift gaitor with white grease if really bad WD40 first then white grease - use copper slip under the bonnet where the flexi shift rods reach the box - that should get the linkage to feel as good as new - if its getting recalcitrant due to cold oil that's just how they are - don't fight it when cold or you'll just damage it - hers is an utter pig at 0C, with >40 C on the gearbox oil, its smooth as butter
