2.0TDCi fuel economy

Featured Replies

Hi

few years ago I had a 64 plate 1.6TDCi mondeo which used to cost approx. £100 to fill and gave me roughly 700miles.

I recently purchased a 13 plate 2.0TDCi mondeo with the same size fuel tank. I haven't got through a full tank but I'm concerned that the computer is expecting me to get approx. 500miles!!!

what's the first culprit I should look for for fuel economy? it has a 2 year warranty.

thanks in advance.

nobody?

Yeah, the 2.0 only does around 35 urban and 45 on a run

The 2.0 engine is 25% larger than the 1.6. It is expected to use more fuel.

The weather is cold, which will also increase fuel consumption.

You haven't completed a tank yet, so the range is still working on the previous owners driving style.

There are far too many variables here to suggest that anything is faulty yet.

I would suggest filling the tank and doing a proper test of mpg by the brim to brim method. Trip computer figures are rarely accurate and it is probably forecasting based on previous owners driving.

As already suggested, the 2.0 will be less economical than the 1.6.

Granted we have an S-MAX (bigger frontal area etc) and Powershift auto so essentially a manual...
Best 55.1: over a day out , car said. Feather foot, no hills, Summer
Worst: 16.5: towing 1500 kg, Santander - Madrid, uphill headwind and rain.
Average (inc 20% towing at 27) over 103 000 miles 34.5.
All brim to brim and the car always reads high unless you are doing under 29 MPG.
Worse in winter and depends on multiple factors like speed, wind, terrain, weight of right foot etc.
Pick the bones out of that!
