Secondly diesel filter.

Featured Replies

HI Everone 👋 Has anyone tried to fit a secondary diesel filter to a ford connect van 1.5 2018 ecoblue?,Thinking a clear see through filter to visually see if their is water in ️ fuel.Any help or advice would be much appreciated.Thankyou.

My comments:
In decades of diesel experience, have never had water in fuel.
Water sinks to the bottom so need it to be of correct orientation shape and size to allow water to settle and be seen.
More likely problems are clogged filters due to lack of maintenance (depends on size of filter but I do 2 years because of bad Ford batch causing limp mode whilst overtaking up a hill)
Position of any filter is crucial needing to be protected in case of crash damage, etc.
Diesels especially prone to tiny air leaks allowing fuel to drain back so connections need to be well made.
I'm sure you can get such filters but if it was small, that in itself could cause problems as the smaller filter, supposedly to protect, could block.
Most standard filters have a drain(have you checked?) and sometimes a sensor so regular attention to that would be my view - i.e. leave well alone and concentrate on good maintenance?

Hi mate yes maintenance is my top priority that's what got me into this position.

The reason I'm asking is that I may have picked up some bad fuel from Asda and it bringing up a fault on dashboard saying "water in filter please drain!,had filter changed by machanic and still the same.

This really isn't necessary. Just drain the filter into a clear cup or bottle so you can see through the side. It's obvious if there's water in there.

Hi yes have done that a few times now and there doesn't seem to be any water however there does seem to be small amounts of black bits so thinking bugs no sure .The reason I'm asking about secondary filter is to eliminate the damaging of injectors if there is water present before I go down the route of emptying tank and then maybe a faulty wire somewhere.the problem didn't exist three weeks ago when I first bought van only it would seem when I pit fuel in from asda.

If you suspect contaminated fuel then draining the tank is a better idea in my opinion.

Adding a second filter just adds another set of connectors and another potential point of leakage for the the future. The cheap filters with a clear casing don't filter very small particles anyway, nowhere near what the genuine diesel filters do. They are really only meant for petrol engines. I don't even know whether they would filter out water.

The faulty wire should be quite easy to rule out. Just unplug it from the filter for now. If the warning comes up randomly when it's unplugged then we know there's a poor electrical connection somewhere.

HI ALL,And thanks to all that commented with help.

The problem turned out to be a snapped pin that is in the multi plug that goes onto the diesel filter itself.Maybe it could help someone else in tbe future.

Kind regards cannycoop😊
