A new to me MK2.5 - Some questions

Featured Replies

Hello!

My dad is getting shot of his 2009 1.6L Focus (Petrol, I think the 98hp engine) and has offered to just give it to me. I've currently got a 2004 MX5, wife has a 2015 1.25L Fiesta and with a baby on the way, this seems like a good shout for a little bit more room for lugging around a baby, dog and all the assorted stuff you accumulate. Free car is free car.

The car itself is on 105K mi, the bodywork (arches, sills etc.) all look to be fairly rust free, there's no bubbling appearing at all. The rear subframe has a rust advisory but I think I can sort that with just a wire wheel and some paint, it didn't look too bad (and my MX5 has taught me a lot about rust!).

No sign in the service history the cambelt was done before my dad bought it, and he definitely hasn't had it done so that'll be on my list. I've seen that bolt on ISOFIX rails are still available too which is handy.

I lifted the boot carpet and found a puddle of water which my dad was unaware of.

Few questions

1) Anything to be aware of with this era of Focus/engine?

2) Boot water ingress - Is this the typical rear light gaskets, or is there somewhere else to look for ingress? Blocked drain holes perhaps?

3) Retrofitting cruise control, I've seen this guide and have retrofit cruise into my wifes 2015 Fiesta before so confident on that. Can FORScan be used for this now? Are these the parts from eBay to use? Steering wheel and airbag

4) Head unit change - 6000CD unit in the Focus atm, I've got double DIN android head unit in my MX5 which I can reuse potentially. Any recommendations for double DIN adapters/fascias, or is it better just using a bluetooth aux adapter?

Thanks in advance for any input 👍

The boot leak could well be the rear light fixing inserts, very common fault. In my car I’ve seen the foam gaskets rot away with time. Failing that possibly the tailgate hinge pockets/seams. Look to see if there is water or damp inside the plastic side trims that the parcel tray clips into.

Lots of options for Android head units to replace the standard audio system - either ones which blend into the Ford fascia or with larger screen and come with their own fascia to fit the Focus dash

If Forscan still doesn't work on Mk2 for cruise retrofit then ELMConfig should do.

I've never done a 1.6 non Ti-VCT though. Think I would double check that PCM does allow cruise before going to the effort of replacing the hardware.
