Smax parking sensors

Featured Replies

Hey all.

Having some trouble getting the parking sensors to work and wondered if anyone had any advice.

The stereo unit on our car died, we replaced this with a cheap android unit. the unit works fine, but we have lost the sound of the sensors.

I am guessing it somehow links to the stereo to come through the speakers. I can’t find any accurate wiring diagrams for it, or anything that would help me work it out.

very appreciative of any advice.

Dean.

Welcome!
I'm unsure about this but as the sound of the rear sensor is at the rear and vice versa, I don't know if the radio unit is actually involved however, as usual, I stand to be corrected!
I'd be checking for any fault codes/live data (yes, Forscan loads of mentions) on the sensors and module to see what is going on?

Hey

Thank you for reply. You may well be right there. I only put it down to the stereo as we lost them when the stereo died. Also as the stereo muted the music for the sensors to be heard, I assumed it went through the stereo. I could be barking up the wrong tree though

I will see if I can get the codes scanned. That’s a good idea

Thanks

Ford saved money on sensor sounders from around 2012 by using the radio speakers instead. You can either refit an original head unit or add new sounders to get the parking sensors back. See link below.

So does the rear sensor noise come from the front speaker! (ours is 2011) - HIGHLY counter intuitive even if a different tone!

Hey.

Thanks for the messages. That link is very interesting, thanks for that.

I did message the company I got the stereo from. Then recommend a CAN-BUS wiring loom. They are sending me one out to try 🤞🤞 I think it comes with an integrated speaker

Thanks all

So my question still stands, how do you know intuitively which sensors are responding to an obstacle if radio speakers are used?
I know you may hopefully know your direction of travel but that doesn't prevent something at the other end coming into contact with car.
The rear sounder being at the rear and front sounder at the front just seems so sensible - am I missing some point?
Thanks
