Upgrades to headlights

Featured Replies

Morning all,

A couple of years ago, i upgraded the rear lights on my Mk4 Focus ST Line to https://ultimatestyling.co.uk/ford-focus-performance-rear-tail-lights-pair-lh-rh-ult1180-prl, now i'm looking to upgrade the front lights.

I did see some very nice Vland options but i could not find ones that fit my car, has anyone upgraded their front lights on the Mk4 ST Line?

Thanks!

Rich

Source some used, Ford, fixed LED units, they're virtually plug and play

Would there be any considerations I'd need to make if I got these - overheating, casing melting etc.? I know that might sound a little extreme but want to double check everything I can, I'd ask the retailer but I find it hard to trust info from a seller as in my mind, they will tell me what I want to hear, just to sell.

I don't mind sticking with the light units i have, if I can get some nice bright bulbs.

They'll fail MOT.

And I certainly wouldn't pay £80

They just can't get the beams right on LED bulbs in reflector headlamps

I had the same issue with my Mk4, they were awful

If you do opt for LED H7 bulbs they must be fan-less or they won't secure in the headlamp and search for 360 degree output

Good job I asked, I was sat waiting to click buy now 😄

Do you have any suggestions or recommendations you would be willing to share? Either for bulbs or entire lights.

That would be appreciated.

Rich

If you want genuine plug & play search for Focus MK4 Reflector LED (2020 on) headlamps on Ebay or at Breakers.

These are totally, 100% plug and play

Fixed Ford LED (not adaptive) were standard fit on Titanium X and Vignales but may need some pins swapping in the main connector and some coding using FORScan

I wouldn't bother buying aftermarket headlamps, they're usually all LHD and probably more than used genuine Ford ones

ok great, thank-you very much for the input!!

LED bulbs use far less current than standard halogen bulbs, there will be no issue with wiring or case melting. Indeed the opposite, when covered in wintery ice, LEDs aren't strong enough to melt it!

When I had my Mk 4 Focus I changed the standard lights for Reflector LED Headlights (only dip beam LED), didn't notice any better light output over uprated standard bulbs, but did look better with whiter colour.

I didn't need to change anything with forscan, they were just plug and play.

Sold the car in the summer and refitted the old headlights, still got the Reflector LED Headlights in the garage.

Thank-you everyone for the input. Held off from buying bulbs so far, realised i was getting swept up in a 'oooohhhhh shiny'.

@MarkRS9 would you be interested in parting with your Reflector LED headlights?

If so, i can schedule DHL to collect (through work account), they would only need to be boxed ready to travel.
