Towbar for 2013 focus estate tdci

Featured Replies

Hi folks. I want to install a towbar onto my 2013 focus estate. Is there any specific one people would recommend and is it a diy capable job or best to put it in somewhere?

Thanks

I would say it is reasonably DIY and we have this:
https://tow-trust.co.uk/
I also believe that you should go for a dedicated wiring set up for multiple reasons, including safety but can be ignored for cheapness :
https://rightconnections.co.uk/
However your local tow bar fitters may supply and/or fit depending on your wishes.
There are multiple option, fixed, detachable etc. and I definitely recommend 13 pin (reliable over 15 years for us) rather than 7 pin x 1 or 2 which are v. unreliable IMHO.
What are you proposing to tow?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I'm puting a 3 bike bike rack on (for 3 ebikes).. with a dedicated wiring harness will that take care of the reversing sensor as I think that'll be constant when I put it in reverse?

You'll need to check but you may need a trailer board if the number plate is obscured in any way and a dedicated wiring set up will AFAIK only know there's something connected and hence de-activate the reversing sensors if there's a plug inserted?

These people (or someone else on here) may well be able to advise and have a massive range of kit:

They appear to offer a lot of advice and e-bike racks if that's what you need are here:

Edit: I Note that some have a trailer board built in but I don't understand how they can say :
Carries 3 bikes, up to 30kg each (up to 60kg in total)?

@TBM1 ...Overnight I thought of the following... There is a limit on the maximum download on the car and the towbar (The S value)
For S-MAX it is 90kg - more relevant to caravan/trailer nose weight BUT with 3 e-bikes and the weight of the carrier you may be close or over the value for your car and bar so it needs checking?
One way may be to travel without the batteries?
