12v outlet issue

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a issue with 12v outlet not working on a mk 3 focus 1.0 ecoboost. Dash cam is piggy backed off this fuse location and works however 12v outlet doesn't. Ive changed fuse already and changed socket but still nothing. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Is the piggy back in the right way round ?

Yes original 20amp in slot closest to fuse board 2amp for dash cam in second slot. Currently waiting on a multimeter to check voltage to 12v socket connector. I have noticed a loose large ground wire in engine bay think it goes to gearbox housing but not sure where however if this is the issue would dash cam work?

You might be better off with a test light to test it. A multimeter will put very little load in the circuit and therefore fail to reveal a poor connection.

But is the piggy back itself plugged into the fuse location the correct way round? Orientation does matter with these.

I have read fuse 61 is too close to fuse box connection which prevents piggy back sitting in slot fully. Some people have shaved some off side of piggy back to solve this so going to give that a try. Piggy back does not have a correct orientation that I know of just fuses have to be in correct slot.

They have to be correct orientation or you could end up bypassing the fuse. 🔥🧯

This shows why orientation is important:

Lovely drawing ! 10/10! and a Gold Star !

In the "WRONG" The accessory current is added to the current through the original fuse, so possibly blowing that fuse !

Exactly and with a low current device and a relatively large primary fuse, there's nothing wrong with the second diagram.
