Motoring Ombudsman

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Its been a long time since my last post.

My question is. Does anyone have any success in claiming against Ford or even think i would be successful in claiming?.

I recently had the misfortune of my timing belt jumping a few cogs due to the tensioner failing and killed the engine.

My car is 9 years old and 88k and has been serviced religiously by the dealers .

The car has never wanted for anything and always had everything as required by the service book.

As per the service book it clearly states 10yrs or 125k for the cam belt service.

Is this failure enough to pursue a claim as the dealer has refused any sort of goodwill and referred me to Ford, which they said if im unhappy to try the Motoring Ombudsman.

They have quoted me £10234 for a replacement engine which was a shock to say the least.

After the initial shock and much pondering over the situation i decided to proceed and have the new engine as my thought was that i cant find another car for the price of the engine let alone a car with a new engine and a warranty.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Dean.

I doubt very much you'll get anywhere TBH

I'd have certainly sourced a known running used engine and fitted that, with new belts etc

Just bad luck I suppose

Stop using stop/start, that doesn't help

Thats what my gut feeling is telling me but after laying out so much cash on what would otherwise have been a perfectly good car and Ford taking my money every service it would have been a shame to scrap it.

A freind of mine successfully claimed a new engine on an 8 year old Nissan Juke with full dealer history after he was advised from Citizens Advice to make a claim.

I will keep you posted on developments after my wife has spoken with the Citizens Advice.

This is about "car repair" which isn't quite what we are discussing
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/buying-or-repairing-a-car/problems-with-a-car-repair/
Ombudsman and trade associations are listed on the page.
I suggest with your specific comments in mind that you contact CA Consumer section rather than the general advice route:
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/get-more-help/if-you-need-more-help-about-a-consumer-issue/
Make sure you are dealing with a specialist consumer adviser (no disrespect to other generalist advisers who are likely to be able to transfer you)
I was unlucky to have a tensioner fail on Mk 1 Mondeo but it only needed new belt kit and a couple of valves - then, later, the injection pump bearing failed for the second time so it went for scrap after that (Boo Hoo!)

Thanks for the info.

It appears when my wife spoke to the Citizens Advice they have a booking system to go in and see someone.

We are looking to get a weekend appointment which will be in three weeks at the earliest so i will see what i can find in the meantime.
