bonnet open warning on when bonnet definitely locked

Featured Replies

bonnet open warning came on days after a new bonnet lock was affixed after shunt ; the bonnet at this point was 100 % locked - now this warning has gone again for the moment

will this warning return??

what has happened??

would it pass its MOT if the light returned at the wrong time ???

is there a way to fix this ; and if so how much is this likely to cost

many thanks

Thoughts would be either the new switch is faulty, the front end shunt possibly damaged the wiring or plug that connects to the bonnet switch or if the bonnet was also damaged it may not be fully engaging the switch now or the slam panel was also damaged and the switch is lower than its previous position.

I’d maybe give things a visual check first to see if anything is obviously amiss. If you get the problem again you could try disconnecting the wiring plug from the switch and linking out the pins. If the light comes on while this is done it points to a wiring issue. If all stays ok but the fault returns once you reconnect the switch then you’re looking at the switch or position of the bonnet/front end.

Yes. The bonnet warning is not a a fail in itself. As long as the bonnet catch is physically secured in the closed position.

many thanks for taking the time to answer I appreciate it ; the opinion on this question is very divided - let's hope the light stays off 👍
