ESC Service Required issues

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I've been having problems with my 2019 focus Titanium X. It displays an ESC service required, which has taken out the ABS, traction control, anti roll back, pre-collision assist, lane recognition, park pilot and the sign recognition. Basically all safety features other than the airbags I think. This happened a few months ago when I parked in a car park. The ABS and traction control lights came on and I turned it off. When I returned to the car the lights were still on. I came to some traffic lights and when I stopped the lights went off. As soon as I moved again, the lights came back on and have been ever since.

I know the ABS control module could be at fault which would eliminate the ABS and traction control assuming it is faulty, but what about the rest? How on earth can all of these features all go wrong at the same time?

Has anyone had this fault? Some help would be very appreciated.

Hi,

First thing with any Mk4 Focus is to fully rechange the battery. But if you've been driving with all these warnings for several months then it's unlikely to just be a battery fault.

Many of those functions rely on speed readings. Speed readings are taken from ABS sensors. It's more likely to be a failed sensor than a failed module. This fault should be repaired first. Forscan may tell you exactly which corner the faulty sensor is on.

However, a couple of those functions shouldn't be reliant on speed input. Lane guidance and Traffic Sign Recognition suggest there could be a separate fault with the front facing camera.

Park Pilot relies on speed signals if it's got automatic parking.

Hi.

Thanks for your reply.

I did in fact buy a new battery which has been tested by ford main dealer to be the correct one and in full working order to be expected. I have changed the rear nearside ABS sensor, as the ford app told me there was a fault in the volts. I also changed the nearside headlight level sensor as the lower rubber bracket was broken. All these changes did nothing, although the battery was certainly no good as I had other issues which it has now fixed, but the rest of the issues remain.
