MAF issue?

Featured Replies

Hi All, About this time last year the car started running a bit lumpy and eventually through up a 'Engine Malfunction - Service Now' warning which would reset on restart but always retrigger, occasionally with an engine waring light which showed as an air flow issue on a cheap OBD unit. I cleaned the MAF and all was good for about another 6 months and the same happened again. Cleaned again and rinse and repeat a few months later so I bought a new replacement of EBay (yes I know, lesson learnt or so I thought!!)

The cheap Ebay one went as well as expected and kept throwing up the 'Service Now' light, so I dug a bit deeper and got an OEM one (although there is a distinct lack of branding on this one as well) and I'm gettting similar results. On the occassions it throws an engine light it shows as a generic error code.

Have I just been unlucky with the MAF sensor I've bought? Anything else to check in the meantime?

I've downloaded Forscan but dont have the USB adaptor, so I've got one ordered. Not sure I'll know what I'm doing when it arrives, but I'll cross that bridge when it turns up.

Stupidly I reset the fault code and couldn't remember what it was. So I went out for a drive to replicate and one hour in and everthing seems fine. I can only think it was damp after fitting in the rain and the moisture caused some interference with the readings. So panic over but thank you for taking the time to respond again to one of my issues!

Just dropped the other half off and it seems I was premature in announcing it was fine. Couldn't get it to throw a code though though just the 'Engine Malfunction-Service Now' warning.

I'm sure the old sesor needed replacing but maybe I'm incorrectly linking it to the MAF sensor?? I'll wait till my USB/OBD arrives and I can plug into FORscan as I'm clutching at straws without a good diagnostic tooI or an error code I think.

Just for closure. I'd not given the car long enough to idle after install. Took engine from stone cold to up to temperature after disconnecting battery for 30 min and it's fine now.
