Replacing rear parking camera

Featured Replies

Hello. I have a Focus Mk3 2018 in which the parking camera produces a distorted image and sometimes loses connection. When coming back to the car after a few hours of it being off, the image is fine but then goes unstable again after a while. I have tried using electrical contact cleaner on the plug and socket but the fault is still there. Has anyone had experience of replacing the camera on this make and model. It looks like I have to remove the three black Torx bolts in the attached photo but I'm worried that might open other problems. I've looked at many videos on YouTube but none of them seem to be for this variant.

Update: I realise I've made a basic error - the housing in the above photo is of the tailgate latch and not the camera! The housing is roughly behind the rear wiper assembly and there is an internal meat skin that covers it (to which the rear wiper assembly seems to be mounted). I see no way of accessing the rear of the camera and tailgate latch housing to peg the housing relating clips open. I think it may be the case that, in order to replace the camera, that housing has to be taken out by force (and the retaining clips on it broken) and then replaced with a new housing. Any other thoughts on the housing removal welcome!

Hi,

It is possible to remove the camera/button using a thin but strong trim tool from the outside...an old credit card might even work.

Alternatively you should just about be able to get your fingers in there to press the tabs on one side at least. (Dependant on finger size of course!)

Thanks for the tips. I'll see what I have that might be suitable
