Ford Focus 2018 exhaust filter at limit

Featured Replies

I think this is a recurring issue, but wanted to know if anyone is struggling with their exhaust filter at the moment?

I drive 40 miles every Tuesday-Friday on national speed limit roads, yet my car keeps warning me that the exhaust filter is at its limit. I took it to my local garage who said that the filter was at 308%. They attempted to clear it and got it down to 73%. That was 3 weeks ago, but now the warning has come up again.

Is this a software issue?? Has anyone else got this problem?

Thanks

Get the spark plugs changed if you don't know when they were last done

Give it a full service

Put some cataclean or similar in the tank

Then trash the living daylights out of it.

Revs clear GPFs not miles, rev it, rev it, rev it, over 4,500 RPM

Thanks Dave. It had a full service back in October and I think spark plugs got changed either in that service or the service before. I have been trying to get revs up - but how long do I need to keep revs up for? I've been getting them to over 4500 RPM but maybe only for 10-15 seconds at a time. A local garage tried to clear the exhaust filter as well, but the car aborted it when the filter was still 73% full.

For the GPF to clear itself you need Heat and Oxygen.

In a Petrol car there is no, or just a nominal amount of Oxygen going down the exhaust when your foot is on the Accelerator so driving in a spirited fashion will by default produce enough heat and more importantly Oxygen because your foot will be off the Accelerator more often.

Make sure the Engine is warm before driving it hard though and I believe there was a Software Update for the early 1.0 Engines, you would need to ask Ford about that.

More ten minutes

Get on a motorway and hold it in a gear, probably third, that gives you 70 MPH but 4,500+ RPM
