2018 FORD FOCUS 1.5TDCI OR ECOBLUE SUMP QUERY

Featured Replies

Hi I am new to forum and would appreciate some advice with my sons Focus 2018 MK 4 Ford Focus ST-Line X TDCI. Timing chain in the head has broken. It would not start and when removing the oil filler cap I could see that the cam was not tuning on crank. Timing belt is ok.

Have purchased a replacement 2nd hand engine but it has a different sump?

Original engine has a black steel sump and replacement has an aluminium sump casing? Both engines are marked as ZTDA

Engine number on my sons original engine is JR67605

Replacement engine number is LB14255

Are they compatible for change or are they a different engine type?

Apart from the sump difference the engines look identical

Thank you

Hi,

The sump capacity was increased on the 1.5 EcoBlue engine in 2019. The reason for this was to reduce the amount of oil contamination and dilution caused by frequent regens and EGR use required to meet the emissions standards of the time.

The original steel sump was replaced with a plastic sump on some models so your post confused me initially. However it now seems that the Focus got an aluminium sump, which appears to be of the same capacity as the plastic one, with a large bulge from the back.

As far as I'm aware, the rest of the engine is the same. Just be aware you will need to add more oil to the new one, the capacity in the handbook will no longer be correct.
