Fords - I've had some, considering another

Featured Replies

A list of the Blue Ovals I have owned, rented and driven

Cortina 1.6 GL Auto (T)
Wafty, Red, often refused to start, even Ford couldn't fix it, traded for an Austin Ambassador, beige obviously

1300 Mk2 Escort Estate (P) from a low budget rental place
Only had it for a weekend for shifting stuff, better to drive than the Cortina, not just because it started

1.6D Escort Popular (E) in Zanussi White (Non turbo so not very popular) Pool car at work
Chosen by an avid cyclist and cricketer.
He opted for the crappiest radio because he wanted Longwave for cricket coverage,
AM only no cassette.
Good at corners, would corner hard enough to cause a stall if the tank was half empty

Ford Meteor 1.6 (1989)
South-African rental car, a Mazda in disguise
Went back after three weeks needing tyres and a handbrake cable that wasn't a bit tired :)

1.6 Sierra L (F) Pool car at work
Doom Blue, got caned everywhere it went

2.3 Galaxy Zetec (02) Bought new
Lugged children and things about with any real issues apart from a proper niggle.
A bolt holding the selector together inside the gearbox was the weakest link.
A recon box was fitted when the bolt was ejected through the casing
It happened again, I managed to retrieve the bolt through the selector hole it lived again.
At 185,000 miles it had a relapse and is parked in the orchard, probably dead but maybe not

Ford Sierra 2.0 Sapphire H967BEG - I Miss this one
The fastest Ford I have ever owned.
Rear axle was from an XR4i, Like a Go-Kart in the dry, unpredictable drift machine in the wet
Check the DVLA for a clue to what made it different.

Ford Galaxy 2.0 Ecoboost (10)
More child carrying transport and Ebay bargain collection unit
Wafts, has enough power to get out of its own way
Would probably fall over on a twisty B-road

I'm thinking I might want another Blue Oval but old age has made me picky.
The Focus ST has all the numbers and 4wd but now I'm older and wiser I have been drawn to Estate cars.

The Full-fat ST estate does not seem to exist though and I don't know if this was a marketing or engineering decision.
There are probably very few people wanting to transport a wardrobe to 60 in under six seconds but I am happy to be that edge case.

I could just buy some sort of Audi but don't have a sufficient level of arrogance to own one.

Is the FWD Focus estate ST capped at 200Bhp to protect the gearbox ?
A second mid life crisis is approaching

The Focus ST has the same power output and engine as the hatchback. You were probably seeing the diesel ST which is 190hp on the MK4 or 185hp on the MK3.5

X1/X2 M35i

You'll thank me later👍🏻

Only the Mk 3 Focus RS had 4wd.

Perhaps a Cupra Leon estate or Golf R estate if an Audi doesn't suit? (I've had two Audis, didn't realise I should have been arrogant!😀)

My Brother in law has an Audi something RS something something.
Its the best thing ever because something something.....
Apart from the Haldex bit which seems to a needy, leaky and often visited with spanners.

It is doing much better than his Mustang though, whilst dodging a Car, Badger or something something, it ate a significant quantity of hedgerow and went to Co-part.

Having changed jobs I now have access to a car scheme, the trouble is the range seems to be all lugging a battery about.
I don't want any PHEV stuff, the worst of both worlds
A self-charging Forrester looks tidy though, especially in metallic Grey and currently avoids a mileage charge.
